How to Perform Wudu: Step-by-Step Guide

Wudu is the ritual purification Muslims perform before prayer (Salah) and other acts of worship, following a specific sequence.
Steps of Wudu
- Intention (Niyyah): Silently intend to perform Wudu for the purpose of prayer.
- Wash the hands: Wash both hands up to the wrists three times.
- Rinse the mouth: Rinse the mouth with water three times.
- Rinse the nose: Inhale water into the nostrils and expel it, three times.
- Wash the face: Wash the entire face from hairline to chin, ear to ear, three times.
- Wash the arms: Wash both arms up to the elbows, three times, starting with the right.
- Wipe the head: Wipe the head once with wet hands.
- Wipe the ears: Wipe the inside and outside of both ears.
- Wash the feet: Wash both feet up to the ankles, three times, starting with the right.
What Breaks Wudu
Common examples include using the toilet, passing gas, deep sleep, and bleeding, though specifics can vary slightly by school of thought.
Why Wudu Matters
Wudu is considered a physical and spiritual preparation for standing in prayer, and is required before Salah is considered valid.
